Workshops with L. Peat O’Neil

2008 Schedule

UCLA Travel Writing (Course #X447.20 offered online)

Go to UCLA Extension, follow menu to: Online Study to: Journalism to Travel Writing.

Winter quarter: January 16 to March 12, 2008.

The UCLA course introduces writers at any experience level to the basics of travel writing. Course guides participants through drafting, revising and editing travel scenes and personal encounters -- the raw material for creating features for newspapers, websites, or magazines. Through hands-on writing exercises and assignments, participants discover how to capture atmosphere, sketch characters, describe local color and mood with words and camera. We work on developing story ideas and learn how to structure a travel article for publication. Tips on the business of travel writing include discovering markets, writing queries, finding and using research material, as well as networking with editors.
Elective credit toward Certificates in Journalism. Enrollment limited to 20 students. Textbooks available from ASUCLA at uclastore.com.

Enrollment is under way now! For more information,
call (310) 825-0641 or email jrprfr@uclaextension.edu.
